We are running the conference in the Great North Museum.  This venue is situated in Newcastle city center as well as being only 5 minutes walking distance from both Newcastle and Northumbria University campuses.  Furthermore, the venue is adjacent to Haymarket Metro station, which provides convenient transport links to both Newcastle Central Station and Newcastle International Airport.

Travelling to Newcastle


Rail
Newcastle Central Station is on the east coast main line linking England and Scotland. It is a direct route from London King's Cross, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Newcastle is very accessible within the UK, with trains arriving from all corners (including London in under 2hr 45min, Leeds and Edinburgh just 90min, Manchester 2hr 58min, Birmingham 3hr, and Glasgow 2hr 51min ). Newcastle Central Station is located in the heart of the city and has its own Metro stop. Taxis are available directly outside the station.

Road

Newcastle is easily accessible by road via:
  • the A1 - running north/south
  • the A69 - running west/east

​Coach/Bus
The main coach station for long distance journeys is on St James Boulevard in the center of the city. Most inter-city coaches stop here. The coach station is about 15 minutes walk from the University.

Air
It may be possible to fly direct to  from locations across Europe. Indirect flights typically change in London, Amsterdam, Brussels or Paris. Connecting flights from London to Newcastle fly from ,  and  airports.
The airport is about seven miles north west of Newcastle city centre.
Official airport taxis pick-up and drop-off outside the terminal. You can  or from inside the airport terminal.
If you have booked any other taxi, they will pick you up or drop you off just across the road from the terminal. You may be able to pick up a non-booked taxi here, but this isn't an official taxi rank. A taxi into the city centre should take about 15 minutes.
The airport Metro station is connected to the terminal. The journey to Haymarket Metro Station (the nearest stop to the venue) takes about 25 minutes.
Buses run to Newcastle city centre and the University from the airport entrance. To plan a bus journey from the airport see the.
