Research students (PhD, MRes and EngD) in applied engineering were invited to submit abstracts, and successful submissions were invited to present their work either orally or as research posters.

Who we are
Developed by students, for students
ICSAE 2016 in Newcastle was an international event organised by motivated students with a passion for applied engineering, and dedicated to research students who are enthusiastic about the field. The event provided a platform for research students to present their work and exchange views with like minded students from all around the world. It was an opportunity to develop skills and to have some fun too.
Talks, sessions and workshops were all geared towards helping students establish a place for themselves in applied engineering and think about career paths after graduation. The event was an ideal environment for research students to test their presentation abilities, practise their poster design skills and, most importantly, learn how to communicate their ideas.
The conference was held at the Great North Museum in Newcastle upon Tyne. The agenda brought together career planning and professional development sessions, technical and research presentations, keynote speeches, industrial workshops, and workshops on skills development such as writing grant proposals, presentation skills and more.

If you are a student in the field of applied engineering, this conference was designed for you.
Masters students
MSc and MEng students were welcomed to submit abstracts as well. Successful submissions were invited to present their work as research posters.
Undergraduates
Final year undergraduate students (BSc and BEng) who were considering a research degree were welcomed. This provided the opportunity to network with research students and gain an insight into what research involves.
Delegates were not charged a registration fee to attend the conference. The event was only possible through the generous support of companies, societies and institutions.

The conference offered opportunities for attendees to mix and mingle, form new relationships and strengthen existing ones over coffee, lunch or conversation between sessions.
